IVF Procedure Step By Step

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a process of fertilizing the gametes outside the body. It is one of the most popular ART techniques across the world. Thousands of people around the world seek medical attention for their infertility and when it comes to treating any kind of infertility, IVF is the best method amongst the different assisted reproductive techniques. We at WellSpring IVF utilize some of the best tools and techniques in order to make your IVF procedure a joyful journey.

The decision to go for In Vitro Fertilization is not easy for the couples, but once you decided, the next step is to learn about the IVF process in India which will make you mentally prepared for the IVF steps right from consulting with the IVF Specialist In India. The entire IVF process is very simple, the gametes are collected from the couples and fertilized in the laboratory and once the embryos formed, they are transferred into the uterus. And just like the normal pregnancy, nine months later you can hold your baby in your arms.

Steps of IVF process

The first step is consultation and physical examination. After a physical examination, our doctors will guide you for further investigation for getting the accurate cause of infertility.

Step 1: Diagnose of infertility

For beginning the IVF treatment, it is necessary to diagnose the reason for infertility. There are many kinds of infertility and it is necessary to know which type of infertility you are suffering from. The reason and type of infertility will help the IVF experts to recommend the best solutions for your infertility. This will ultimately increase the success rate of your treatment.

Step 2: Egg Retrieval

The egg retrieving process is quite surgical and it needs additional medical attention. It can be said that half of the IVF process cost in India is spent on egg retrieval. Before scheduling the egg retrieval process, the female partner will be given ovulation stimulation injection which will mature the eggs. After 36 to 48 hours the operation for retrieving ovarian follicles will be scheduled. Then with the help of a microscope and IV catheter, the ovarian follicles are drained. This fluid is then sent to the laboratory to collect the eggs.

Step 3: Sperm Retrieval

As soon as the eggs are collected, the fresh semen is derived from the male partner. If the male partner is not suffering from any infertility, then this semen is derived naturally or else he has been operated for TESA i.e. Testicular Sperm Aspiration which is an invasion method of straining sperms from male testicles. After getting the semen, the sperms are collected and processed in the lab.

Step 4: Fertilization

The laboratory is the place where the entire IVF process happens. In the lab, under the microscope, the sperms are introduced to the eggs which are then kept aside for 2 days for the process of fertilization. Then after 2 days of the fertilization, the eggs are then observed for the signs of blastocyst culture. Sometimes, Intracytoplasmic sperm injection is recommended to the couples in order to increase the success rate of the process. In ICSI, only one sperm in injected into the egg with the help of hollow needle under the guidance of microscope. This will then optimized and observed for fertilization.

Step 5: Embryo Culture

The fertilized egg is then placed for up to 6 days to form a blastocyst culture. After developing several cells, this blastocyst cultured embryo is ready to be transferred into the uterus. Sometimes, the IVF doctors recommend freezing the embryo in order to increase the chances of success. Research shows that a frozen embryo has higher chances of implantation than a fresh embryo. The embryo freezing will add up your IVF treatment cost.

Step 6: Embryo Transfer

This is the last and the most emotional step of the IVF procedure in India. In this process, the fresh or frozen embryo is transferred into the uterus. This step is just like doing a transvaginal ultrasound. Under the guidance of ultrasound, the embryo is placed through the vagina and cervix into the uterus with the help of an IV catheter. Then the patient is recommended to have rest for a few hours and will be discharged to go home.

Step 7: Pregnancy Test

After two weeks of embryo transfer, we conduct the first pregnancy test. If the test is positive, you will remain under the supervision of our IVF expert until you are 10 weeks pregnant. And if the test is negative, we recommend you to consult with our IVF expert for further steps. Or you can wait as per your convince. Most of the patients resume the process as soon as possible.
